1 stick butter, softened to room temperature
1/4 cup sugar
Pinch of salt
1 egg yolk
1/2 Tablespoon vanilla
1 cup flour
Cream together the butter, sugar and salt. Add in the yolk and vanilla and them slowly mix in the flour until it forms a sticky dough. Shape into a roll about 1 1/2 inches thick. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate about two hours or until firm. Cut into 1/4 inch thick cookies. Bake at 350F for 12 to 15 minutes or until edges are slightly browned. Cool a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire wrack to cool.
