I don't think you should be blaming yourself for what happened, predators, especially foxes are very clever and hard to keep out. The thing to remember is that the fox didn't do this as a personal vendetta against you or your chickens, he did it because he has to eat too. We aren't the only mammals that eat chickens, it's a simple matter of nature.
